An Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) assesses how a learner applies clinical skills in simulated encounters. A student may rotate through short stations that involve tasks such as taking a history, explaining a procedure, communicating with a patient, or demonstrating a clinical technique.
OSCE preparation is more than memorizing a script. Practise a clear structure: introduce yourself, confirm the patient’s concern, listen carefully, explain your next steps, and check understanding. For a clinical task, follow the sequence taught by your course and observe safety and consent requirements.
After each practice station, ask for specific feedback: What did I do well? What should I change next time? Repeating the station with that feedback helps build confidence and makes improvement measurable. Medical education resources describe OSCEs as a way to observe performance in simulated, realistic scenarios and provide feedback.
