The NMC OSCE supporting documents have been updated, bringing critical changes that students must be aware of before their examination. As part of the June 2026 update, revisions have been made to a few key supporting documents used in NMC OSCE stations, including the Nutritional Assessment, Anti-Embolism Stockings, and the DVT Scenario of Assessment Stations.
While these updates do not alter the fundamental clinical principles being assessed, they directly affect the reference materials you will use during your OSCE. Understanding these changes will ensure accurate assessment, documentation, and decision-making on exam day.

Why Are Supporting Document Updates Important?

Supporting documents are designed to assist you in making safe, evidence-based clinical decisions during the OSCE. Preparing with outdated documents can lead to confusion and easily cost you marks.
Here is a breakdown of the three major updates you need to know:

1. Nutritional Assessment Station Update

The major change in the Nutritional Assessment Station involves the Step 2 Weight Loss Score Chart used in the MUST (Malnutrition Universal Screening Tool) assessment. While the scoring criteria itself remain exactly the same, the presentation of the chart has been completely inverted.

Understanding MUST Step 2: Weight Loss Score

You are still required to calculate the patient’s unplanned weight loss over the last 3–6 months to identify their risk score:

• Score 0: Weight loss less than 5%
• Score 1: Weight loss between 5% and 10%
• Score 2: Weight loss greater than 10%

What Has Changed?

Why the change? This new layout drastically reduces the calculation steps required mid-exam, cutting down your risk of math errors under pressure.

2. Anti-Embolism Stockings Supporting Document Update

The June 2026 guidelines provide much stricter, clearer pathways for measuring and selecting anti-embolism stockings based on upper thigh circumference.

• If Upper Thigh Circumference is LESS than 91.4 cm:
• What to measure: Upper thigh circumference, calf circumference (at the widest point), and the distance from the buttock fold to the heel.
• Selection: Thigh Length or Thigh Length with Belt.
• If Upper Thigh Circumference is 91.4 cm or MORE:
• What to measure: Upper thigh circumference, calf circumference (at the widest point), and the distance from behind the knee to the heel.
• Selection: Knee Length.
  OSCE Tip: Always verbalise your measurement sequence and explicitly state your structural rationale to the examiner when making your selection.

3. DVT Scenario of Assessment Station Update

For the Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) assessment, a dedicated Total Score Column has been added directly to the 2-level DVT Wells Score chart.
The clinical criteria have not changed, but you no longer have to tally the score implicitly on the margins of your paperwork. This addition allows you to document the final score clearly, reducing compilation errors and speeding up your clinical decision-making pathway.
